Floyd served in Civilian Public Service during World War II. He was a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren, the Lions Club, the Optimist Club and other organizations.

He graduated from Roanoke College in 1947 and received an M.A. from the University of Virginia in 1951. He retired from teaching after 30 years in the Alexandria and Roanoke Co., Va. public schools.

He was a genealogist, and in his later years researched and published many books with his wife. These included books about the Mason, Miller, Ziegler, Garst, Garber, Shank, Wampler, Cline/Kline/Klein, Knave, Bowman, Hershey, Webster and other families.

In addition to his wife, Kathryn (Garst) Mason, whom he married June 16, 1943 in Roanoke, he is survived by a daughter; a son; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother.

He was predeceased by a son Alan, his parents Russell E. & Mary P. (Zigler) Mason and brothers Earl and Olin.
