Funeral Services Held For Otto Krog
Funeral services for Otto J. Krog, life time resident of the Newell community were conducted at the Nain Lutheran Church February 26 with Pastor David Young officiating.
Mr. Krog passed away in his sleep February 23 having been in ill health for many years.
Mrs. Johansen served as organist. Caring for the flowers were Mrs. Bruce Jewell, Mrs. Ray Krebs and Miss Amanda Bodholdt.
Attendants were Mr. Wilde, Donald Wilde, Wm. R. Ward, Robert Jorgensen John Wilemek and Bruce Jewell.
Honorary attendants were Chris Kladstrup, John Gaherty, Vernon Haahr, Ed Merman, Einar Jensen and Valdemar Sondegaard, all veterans of the 79th Division in WWI.
Interment was in the Newell Cemetery with Sliefert Funeral home, Storm Lake, in charge. American Legion Post 193 conducted military rites at the graveside.
Attending the services from out of town were Mrs. Lauretta Hollis, Mr. Jim Christoffersen and Mrs. Esther Krog of Cedar Falls, Mr. and Mrs. John Wilemek and family of Traer, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Ward and Randy of San Antonio, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. Noel Byg, Mrs. Peter Byg and Mr. Nels Byg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Obituary
Otto Johanes Krog was born May 17, 1891 to Bodil Stine and August Krog in Grant Township, Buena Vista County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell.
He spent his entire life on the family farm and attended school nearby.
He served with the U. S. Army in World War I in the 313th Infantry, Company F, 79th Division for nearly a year.
He suffered from diabetes and as a result both legs were amputated.
His home was his haven and children were his joy.
His long affliction was ended by death when he slept peacefully away on Thursday morning, February 23, 1967 at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 6 days.
Survivors include one brother, Hans C. Krog, and one sister Mrs. Ellen Lucht of this vicinity and one sister, Mrs. Melbea Henningsen of Cedar Falls, and seven nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Nels C. Krog and one niece Beulah Henningstn.
