Son of Coy and Lennie Mae Carter Powers, husband of Carolyn Ann Hyatt.

MULLINS - Mr. James P. "J.P." Powers, 82, of Mullins passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, June 25, 2022, with his family by his side after an extended illness.

J.P. was born in Dillon County, on December 11, 1939, son of the late Coy Powers, Sr. and the late Linnie Carter Powers. J.P. was a retired knitting machine mechanic. In his down time J.P. enjoyed watching Westerns on television, listening and playing Bluegrass music, and watching baseball. J.P. was also a guitarist and member of the Gospel Messengers and had been featured on the radio several times with his group. He was a member of Piney Grove Mission Church.

Surviving Mr. J.P. are his wife, Carolyn Powers; daughter, Opal Powers (Hank) of Mullins; two sisters, Virgie King of Texas and Jeanette Welch of Latta; 2 granddaughters; and 4 great grandchildren.

J.P. was predeceased by four brothers, William Powers, Willard Powers, Coy Powers, Jr., and Clyde Powers; and two sisters, Pearlie Bryant and Katherine Ballard.

Mr. Powers' funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, June 28th in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Johnny Hyatt officiating. Mr. Powers will be laid to rest following the service in Devotion Gardens Cemetery.
