James was born in 1927 to James Clarence Ross and Alma Ross in Powhattan, Kansas. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Army in September 1946 and was honorably discharged in January 1948. His next adventure was farming. He married Betty Louise Fuhrman on December 9, 1951. Together they worked their Kansas farm for 40 years and raised two daughters. After retiring from farming, they moved to Otis Orchards, WA in 1991.
James' wife, Betty of 64 years preceded him in death in 2016. Their daughter, Valerie Louise preceded him in death at birth. Also preceded in death was a brother, Carlton and sister, Dora.
He is survived by his sister Delores and brother Sylvester; daughters Shelley Scheid, née Ross and Wendy Thompson, née Ross; grandchildren Ryan Scheid, Stacey Laiho, née Scheid, Ross Thompson and Mitchell Thompson; great grandchildren Alyssa Scheid, Alexander Scheid, Zachary Scheid, Olivia Laiho and Connor Laiho.
A memorial service will be held at Valley Fourth Church, 2303 S. Bowdish Road, Spokane Valley at 1:00 p.m., June 29, 2022. Graveside services will follow the memorial at Pines Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Gideon's or Horizon Hospice.
