Edward Gregory "Greg" Thompson, 81, died Sunday, September 5, 2021 at his home in Moore, Oklahoma....

Greg was a successful entrepreneur, instructor, and commercial aviator of Hot Air Balloons. He could often be seen flying his beautiful balloon across Oklahoma City. He taught numerous student pilots to fly and was an instructor for the Federal Aviation Administration. He traveled across country to produce hot-air-balloon festivals and served as an influential ambassador for the sport.

Greg was very involved in many civic activities. He was a veteran in the United States Air Force. Greg was elected to the Moore City Council from 1988 - 1992. He was instrumental in setting-up a Red Cross shelter at St Andrews Church that served the community in the aftermath of the 2013 Moore tornado. One of Greg's many passions was helping kids in need. His philanthropic activities included supporting orphanages and schools, organizing school Christmas programs for disadvantaged kids and serving as a Boy Scout Troop leader.

Greg was a charismatic speaker and inspirational leader with a sharp wit. His personal pleasures included having "afternoon tea" with his close friends, petting his dog(s) and any activity involving his kids and grandkids .

His wife Edna was the "great love" of his life and their 44-year romance was extraordinary. They loved and served one another in life's great times and in the most difficult of times, even through his battle with Alzheimer's.

A funeral service will be held at Primrose Funeral Home in Norman, OK on Thursday, September 9th at 10:00 a.m.
