Actress. Also known as Carrie Crouchley. Born in Rhode Island, she often appeared in films in the roles of school teachers, tourists, or little old ladies. In 1946, Bates appeared in the film, "The Green Years", which was based on the novel by author A.J. Cronin, but her role as Mrs. McTavish was uncredited. Her other roles included "Girl Of The Ozarks" (1936), "The Texas Rangers" (1936), "Arrest Bulldog Drummond" (1939), "Boy Trouble" (1939), "Unmarried" (1939), "Grand Jury Secrets" (1939), "Parole Fixer" (1940), "Hands Across The Rockies" (1941), and "Birth of The Blues" (1941). After her retirement from the film industry, Bates worked as a secretary for the Hard of Hearing Society in Pasadena, California.
