Obituary
Mrs. Elizabeth Bell Perkins, born the fourth child to the late Rufus H. Bell, Sr. and the late Louise Marrow Bell of Norfolk, Virginia departed this life on September 18, 2021. She was educated in the Norfolk Public Schools. She was employed in the Federal Government as a shipment clerk at the Naval Supply Center, where she worked for 29 years, and retired in 1980.
Elizabeth was a long-standing member of St. John's AME Church, where she committed her life to Christ at a very early age under the pastorship of the Reverend A.J. Young. She has been a faithful member for over 85 years.
On September 3, 1939, she married the late John H. Perkins of Jacksonville, North Carolina and from their union, they had three children (two daughters; Elaine Perkins Williams and Audrey A.Perkins, and one son, Dwight McH. Perkins). As a young Christian woman, she was a member of the Sunday School, the church choir, the Missionary Society, the Female Usher Board #2, the Stewardess Board #3, and a member of the Lay Organization. Elizabeth was very spiritual and faithfully read the Holy Bible and the Daily Word every day. She deeply loved the church and was devoted to supporting any organizational functions that contributed to the growth of the church. She encouraged and supported higher educational achievementand Christian values with her own children and grandchildren as well.
In the community she held membership in the Broad Creek Civic League for many years. She was a positive influence and role model for many of the young families in the league. Elizabeth (affectionately called Aunt Tissue by the family and Kitty-Boo by very close friends) was a family centered person who will be greatly missed by her surviving children; Audrey A. Perkins, and Dwight M. Perkins; two grandsons, Hamilton Dwight McHenry Perkins and Joshua Dwight Perkins;one great grandson, Hamilton Dwight McHenry Perkins II; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Perkins; a grand daughter-in-law, Carla Perkins; one sister, Vernice Bell Archer (Norfolk), and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a very dear friend Mr. Lamonte Purdle. Also, she is preceded by many brothers and sisters.
Her spirit will continue to live in the hearts and minds of those who loved her.
