Janice C. Payne
WEAVERVILLE– April 3, 1938 – June 18, 2022

Janice's family and friends are comforted by the blessings we have received from our association with her. Each of us knew of her wondrous scope of compassion, intelligence, humor and boundless energy to help and support her community.

The valedictorian from the small town went on to a 35-year career with Duke Power/Energy in Charlotte, where she earned the trust and reliance of the Executive Officers. She then chose Asheville where her happiest years have been spent and closest friendships nurtured.

She could figure out anything, and was a true lover of books and knowledge. She remembered the birthdays, and kept the cards thanking her from the little kids in the family.

She has received the highest level of trust most people can earn as she has helped close ones meet their challenges. She joked about being trusted with keys to so many houses, while cautioning people to watch out if they left chocolate nearby.

She is still much loved, and has been referred to as "mom", "true sister", "godmother", "best friend", and "the Mayor" of Woodland Hills.
