John "Jack" L. Benson, age 90, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at his home.

He was born on December 26, 1930, in Iron River, MI, the son of the late Axel and Isabel (LeDoux) Benson. Jack attended the Iron River Schools. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three bronze battle stars and the Occupation Medal (Japan).

Jack married Leona Gurchinoff on October 11, 1952, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River, MI. The couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in 2020. Leona preceded him in death on December 9, 2020.

He was employed as a miner for MA Hanna and was a logger. After retirement, he worked with his son Jack on the pipeline. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, and working on cars, as he was very mechanically inclined.

Survived by information is edited out for privacy of living people.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Benson; sisters, Betty (James) Goriesky and Dorothy (Robert) Kalata.

A combined visitation for Jack and Leona will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021, from 11:00am to noon at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. A prayer service will follow at noon with Deacon Terry Verville to officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
