Larry Green

Larry Bernard Green (affectionally known as Bern) was born October 24, 1959, to James and Vernis Dennis Green in Carthage, MS.

He joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, at an early age, and was a faithful member until his death.

Bern attended South Leake High School, home of the "Mighty Wildcats," in Walnut Grove, MS. There he excelled in basketball and baseball. He was a proud member of the Harmony Tigers baseball team. His love for the sport of baseball-inspired him to start a youth baseball team in the community. Not only did he coach the youth, teaching them the fundamentals of baseball, but Bern along with the late Rodex Stribling and the Late Deacon Walter Brown also provided assistance in getting the equipment and uniforms that they needed to be successful. He was the ultimate sportsman, an avid hunter, and fisherman, and he would always share his catch with others, which provided food the nourishment for many people in the surrounding area and state. As a very giving and sharing person, loved by many, these tokens of love and affection will be dearly missed. After being employed with the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 28 years, Bern retired on June 30, 2003.

Bern met the love of his life, Dianne Jones, on December 27, 1975. They were united together in holy matrimony on February 15, 1986. To this union, two children were born.

He departed his earthly life on June 19, 2022.

Bern leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Dianne; his lovely mother, Vernis "Moochie" Green; his father James Green preceded him in death; five sons, Larry "Tattoo" Green, Jamari Green, Dewey (Shawnta) Sanders, Marcus Collier, Dylan Davis, one son Rodney Hawkins preceded him in death; three daughters, Keawana Smith, Nikki (Kenyon) Evans, Suprena Davis Green; sixteen grandchildren; one sister Sheila Green, one brother Kendrick "Red" (Evelyn) Green; a very special uncle and aunt Richard and May "JoJo" Polk; two brothers-in-law, James (Dianne) Jones, Alonzo (Kelly) Jones; two sisters-in-law, Gloria (Ronnie) Hill and Kimberly Jones; special cousins who were like brothers and sisters, Charles, Phyllis, and Beverly; four special friends; Ardell Ferguson, Terry Cannaday, Della Brumfield, and Billy Pat Leflore, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, that he dearly loved. A special cousin preceded him in death, Richard Fitzgerald Polk.
