James W. Adams, son of William M. and Stella Mae Keeney Adams, was born June 4, 1922, near Sleeper, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, March 3, 2003, in Breech Regional Medical Center, Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, seven months and eleven days.

He was united in marriage to Alma Jean Miller, on October 20, 1946, and to this union two sons and two daughters were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alma Jean, on March 8, 1979; two sisters, Beulah Hough and Louise Mosier; three half-brothers, Albert, Alfred, and Herb; and six half-sisters, Doshia, Blanche, Edith, Adda, Laura and Faye.

James is survived by two sons, Rick Adams, and his wife, Jo, of Springfield, Missouri, and Randy Adams, of Lebanon, Missouri; two daughters, Linda Douglas, and her husband, Ralph, of Grovespring, Missouri, and Jeanine Vernon, and her husband, Martin, of Hartville, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Angelia Ohman, of Kansas City, Missouri, David Douglas, and his wife, Lisa, of Sound Beach, New York, Kimberly Newborn, and her husband, Jeremy, of Eudora, Kansas, Philip Adams, of Springfield, Missouri, Sheena and Katelin Vernon, both of Hartville, Missouri, and Shannon Cook, and her husband, Matt, of Lebanon, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Eva Ohman, and Shaylee and Quintin Cook; a brother, Don Adams, of Winfield, Kansas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.

He attended Stoutland High School before entering the United States Army, where he served his country faithfully during World War II, and was awarded five bronze stars. After he was honorably discharged from the service, he met and married Alma Jean, and they shared thirty-three years together before her passing.

Throughout his life, James worked in the dairy industry. After working for a time at the Lebanon Firestone Store, he purchased a can milk route where he hauled milk to Cabool, Missouri and later to Lebanon, after the opening of the Mid-American Dairy there. In 1954, he and Alma Jean began their own dairy farm south of Lebanon. He was widely known for his fine Jersey dairy herd.

James had professed his faith in Christ and was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church while his health permitted. He served as Chairman of the Trustees during the time the church was building the new sanctuary. He loved his community and served on the Washington School Board, where he was director for many years. He was a kind and caring neighbor and was always willing to give a helping hand. He also enjoyed visiting with friends at local cafes.
His life centered upon his family and the operation of the farm. He always received great joy from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

James was a caring and concerned father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of all his family and friends.
