Elizabeth/Betsy Bowlin was born in Pittsylvania Co., VA to James Bowlin and his first wife, Frances/Franky Dyer. She grew up in Bedford Co., TN and then travelled to Miller county about 1840 with her father and his second family. She married first to John Thomas Lynch also from Bedford Co., TN and they had at least 6 children. He left Missouri with his brother and others headed to the gold fields, and died of typhoid before he could return or send for his family to join him. Betsy then married Hampton Worthen/Worthing/Warthen and they had at least 4 more children. Hampton died sometime during the Civil War years, in unknown circumstances. In 1865 Betsy married George B. Ivie, a widower with grown children. George himself died in 1866 as did one infant son. After her brief marriage to George Ivie, Betsy reverted back to using the Worthen surname. After the Civil War Betsy and her oldest son James G. Lynch moved just over the Missouri state line into Fulton co., Arkansas where she remained until her death.Elizabeth was married to John Thomas Lynch.

His daughter states that John went off to the gold rush when she was about four years old and died of Typhoid
