James A. Painter .... died at age 67 years, seven months and 23 days. He was the son of John and Rachel McDaniel Painter, and was one of a family of ten children, five of whom are deceased. Those living are Emma, Jane, Susan and John A Painter of the home address. Also Mrs. Ann Newell who resides in Sac Township. The father, James A Painter, Sr., was a blacksmith by trade. Both of his parents were members of the New Hope Presbyterian Church and have been dead for several years.

The family moved to this state in 1869 and lived for one and one half years in Morgan township, and then moved to the homeplace, it being a part of the old Henry Pemberton estate, where members of the family have continued to live up to the present time. They began here as renters, and finally bought and improved what is known as the Painter farm, one of the best in Polk township.

James Painter was one of our best citizens---industrious, honorable and upright in all his dealings with his fellow men, and was highly respected by all who knew him. He had been in poor health for several years, and since last December had been confined most of the time to his room. During all of his sickness he manifested the same kind, patient and hopeful spirit that had characterized him all through life. He told his loved ones that he was ready and willing to go, and that all was well with his soul.

Funeral services were conducted by the writer at the home, in the presence of his brothers, sisters, relatives, neighbors and friends, all in deep sorrow, but they sorrow not even as others have no hope. His remains were laid to rest in Pemberton Cemetery, beside of those loved ones who have gone before. -- W.R. Russell

James MO Death Certificate states he was 67, and single. He had Bright's Disease and died from "Myo Carditis". His brother John A Painter of Everton is the informant on his death certificate.
