JR McLaughlin passed away on October 1st, 2021 at the age of 93. JR was born in Hastings, Nebraska to Jess S McLaughlin and Ruth Bell McLaughlin on August 31st, 1928.

The family moved to Fargo in 1933. While in the 9th grade JR met Elizabeth "Itty" Clay. JR and Itty were married in 1948 after JR spent his junior and senior years of high school at Kemper Military School in Missouri and later a year at University of Missouri, where he skipped 44 times in the first semester alone. JR and Itty raised three boys, Tim, John, and Scott in Fargo. JR started McLaughlin Equipment, McLaughlin RV, and Valley Bus. JR was a natural salesman and was passionate about his success in selling School Buses.

JR enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and family which gave way to more golf when they moved to Scottsdale for the winters. JR was an avid golfer and played most of his life, having started playing in 1940 and achieving 7 holes in one. JR and Itty built their home on Pinnacle Peak Country Club in Scottsdale, AZ in 1976, where late in life he became one of the last original club members. Winters were spent in both Arizona and on annual RV trips through Mexico which had started in 1951. Summers were spent on Lake Melissa near Detroit Lakes, MN. After 47 years of marriage, Itty passed away on April 6th, 1995.

JR married Sheila Scherling in 1998. Sheila's son and daughter, David and Kristy, became part of the family. Sheila and JR enjoyed extensive traveling, annual vacations in Mexico and summers at the lake. Sheila took up golf, which they enjoyed together for many years. As JR aged he called Sheila the Queen of the Nurses and she selflessly helped JR through a variety of health issues over the years.

JR will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and quick sense of humor. He cherished his family and friends and believed his life had been a great trip.

JR is preceded in death by his wife Itty and he is survived by his wife Sheila, his sons Tim (Wendy), John (Lorraine), Scott (Peggy), stepson David Scott (Lois), stepdaughter Kristy Graten (Terry), special niece Kitty, and twelve grandchildren.
