Paul was born at home on September 2, 1929, in Reasnor, Iowa. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1948. Paul married Ruth Ellen Jensen on August 5, 1955.

Paul was a union brick layer and contractor by profession, receiving his 50-year gold card, he had a natural ability for it. Paul was really in his element around people. Storytelling, colorful jokes, and pranks came easy from a boy who grew up with three sisters. He once chased his sister Wanda through a closed screen door with a mouse.

He was proud of being frugal, being born in 1929, and growing up through the Great Depression era. Paul had a work ethic built into him. He was drafted into the Korean War in 1949 and joined the military police. You had to earn his respect, yet he always backed the underdog and would help anyone who asked. Helping once as a father figure to a young niece, Paul always did the right thing when it was the right thing to do. He was a good man, fair, honest, and looking back on 92 years if you measure a man by his heart, Paul blessed a lot of people with his.

Paul passed away at the age of 92 on Monday, June 20, 2022, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Agnes Ross, and sisters Wanda Ross Welshons Smith and Wilma Ross Partridge Schreiver.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth of Newton; his two sons, Denny (Jackie) Ross of Waukee and Ronnie Ross of Waukee; his sister, Pauline Ray of Newton; and his numerous nieces and nephews.
