Joseph Aubra Suggs, know to most as Joe, departed this earthly life Tuesday, June 21, 2022 following a brief illness. He was born to Thilbert Aubra Suggs and Dorothy Willis Suggs in Bladen County on August 26, 1950.
Joe devoted his life to farming. He grew up on a farm and chose farming for his life's work. A hardworking man, Joe worked the land his entire life and took great pride in his farm in Whitakers, NC, instilling the same devotion within his sons, Adam and Chad.
He graduated from West Edgecombe High School and attended North Carolina State University to study his chosen profession.
To support his community, Joe was an active member of the Edgcombe-Martin EMC Directors Board and Whitakers Volunteer Fire Department board, and previously, Edgecombe County Soil & Water Conservation among other organizations.
Joe was an avid hunter as well as a skilled fisherman. He was quick to share his love of the outdoors with his pride and joy, his granddaughter, Reagan. Reagan put a special sparkle in his eye that was evident, and completely stole his heart. They shared countless adventures together on his farm.
This beloved father and grandfather was preceded in death by his parents, Thilbert and Dorothy Suggs, and brother, Dennis.
Those left to cherish their life experiences with Joe are sons Chad Suggs (Melinda Outlaw) of Red Oak, NC and Adam Suggs (Ridgley) and granddaughter Reagan of Whitakers, NC; sister, Edna Glenn Suggs of Tar Heel, NC; brothers Billy Suggs (Sandy) of Rocky Mount, NC and Clyde (Jane) Suggs of Roper, NC. Those who will also remember him with great affection are his nieces Lindsey Suggs Gregg (Geoff) and Virginia Suggs Harris (Clark) as well as his many friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro, NC. A private service and memorial plaque dedication will be held at a later date at the family cemetery in Bladen County. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Edgecombe County 4-H (more specific donation information to follow).
