Eva Pienta, 98, of Spring Valley, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022, at the JPO Retirement Home in Dalzell where she has resided for the past three and a half years.

The funeral service for Eva will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley. Deacon John Murphy will officiate. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Spring Valley. T

Eva was born in Spring Valley on October 27, 1923, to Michael and Eva (Baronofsky) Bernatavich. She married Eugene Pienta on September 13, 1947, at St. Anne's Church in Spring Valley. He died in 1974.

She worked at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley as a surgical nurse until retiring in June of 1986. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish and a volunteer for the Red Cross.

Eva is survived by two sons, Stephen Pienta of San Antonio, Texas, and Michael (Nancy) Pienta of La Salle; a daughter, Jean Zych of Yardley, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; three brothers, Michael, James and Walter Bernatavich; and a sister, Sally Meade.
