Robert was born December 15, 1931, to his parents Gordon and Ione Bell McLain. He was born, raised, and went to school in Malakoff where he graduated High School in 1949. Robert joined the National Guard in 1949 at 17 years old where he served for 14 years. He spent most of his life living in Athens, where he participated for many years in several civic organizations. Some of which were the Athens Little Theater and Kiwanis. He loved to hunt, fish, square dance, and travel in his motorhome. Robert and Betty started their own construction company, Custom Home Builders, in 1965 and worked that business for over 36 years. He spent the last 14 years residing in Frankston where he enjoyed attending Lighthouse Baptist Chapel. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His favorite past time was spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Ione Bell McLain and wife Betty Jean McLain of 65 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Goodman and husband Mike of Frankston; son, Paige McLain and wife Susan of Athens; Grandson, Jordan Goodman of Tyler; Granddaughter, Taylor Jenkins and husband Richard of LaRue; Granddaughter, Brooke Ingram and husband Paul of LaRue; Great Grandchildren, Harper Jo Jenkins and Hayes McLain Jenkins; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Wanda Livingston.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Autry's Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Autry's Carroll-Lehr Funeral home.
