Donald Baird Post "007", 83, of Springfield, died at 9:18am on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Heritage Health in Springfield.

Donald was born on May 18, 1935, in Springfield, the son of Howard S and Hilda C Smith Post. He married Ilene Joyce Engel on April 28, 1979 in Springfield. Donald was a 1953 graduate of Springfield High School. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree at Western Illinois University. After completing his education, he then proudly served his country in the United States Army and eventually retired from the Air National Guard. In all, he served 20 years with the military. Donald also served as a school teacher with District 186 on and off for 31 years. Donald also owned and operated his own candy store "Judy Lynn Candies" for 10 years in the downtown area. His love of working with people, candy and sweets also led to his employement as a field rep for the Dairy Queen company traveling throughout central Illinois.

Donald was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Springfield Jaycees, the Friend in Need program, the Methodist Men's Club, and an honored member of the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame. Donald was an avid St Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed playing, watching and being involved in the local school baseball programs. He also enjoyed bowling, watching his favorite movies, playing poker, and going to garage sales. He was a collector of all types of memorabilia. His favorite activity was spending time traveling and interacting with his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gordon D Post. He is survived by his wife, Ilene Post of Springfield; sons, David Post of Springfield and Darren (wife, Sally) Post of Rochester; daughter, Jody Post (fiance, Tim Baran) of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Rebecca Post of Springfield, Dylan Post (girlfriend, Brittany Davis) of Taylorville, great-grandchild, Khloe Post of Taylorville; sister-in-law, Sharon Post; nephew, Kevin Post of Springfield; niece, Karon (husband, Bill) Kaltenbach of Parker, Co; and great-nephew and niece, Alex and Gabrielle Kaltenbach of Parker, Co.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 South Sixth Street, Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:00am on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, 2941 Koke Mill Road, Springfield with Pastor Nicole Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
