Passed away Friday afternoon, June 17, 2022 at his home. Jim was born April 13, 1947 in Kalamazoo the son of Kenneth and Darlene (Davison) Nelson. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed for 35 years with Georgia Pacific prior to his retirement. After retiring from Georgia Pacific, he enjoyed driving semi for Ralph Moyle. In his spare time Jim loved to mow his lawn on his John Deere tractor. He also enjoyed meeting with the retirees from Georgia Pacific on Wednesdays for their weekly breakfast get togethers. He loved visiting his brother-in-law Roy in the U P, and having friends and family over for cookouts.

On May 21, 1988 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Bonnie (Hoogakker) who survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Laura (Tony) Fowler, Karen (John) Fulbright, Rebeca (Mike) Roberts; 4 grandchildren, Jonathon, Haden, Logan, and Marlee; his sister, Diane Cochran; in laws, Lillian Nelson, Roy Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Ronald Hudson, Jr; brother, Darryl Nelson; and in-laws, James Cochran, Claudia (Dutch) Hill and Ann Merriam.

Friends may meet the family from 10:30-11:30am Friday, June 24 at the Prairie Baptist Church, 11210 East PQ Ave, Scotts, MI 49088 where services will follow at 11:30am. Interment will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors.
