After 65 years together, Edwin (Eddie) Alfred Mann, age 83, and Marilyn Boyd-Mann age, 84 of Summerfield, Florida, passed away within two days of each other: Marilyn on April 9th and Edwin on April 11th, 2022.
Edwin, born to Ed and Sara Mann in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on September 17th, 1938, and Marilyn, born to George and Eleanor Boyd on July 28th, 1937 in Los Angeles, California, met in college at The University of Texas in Austin. What started as a blind date turned into a life story.
Marilyn graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1955. She then earned her bachelor's degree in art education at The University of Texas, was a counselor at Camp Arrowhead in Hunt, Texas, and was an active member of Delta Gamma sorority. She went on to be a teacher in public schools and private preschools, and later a sales associate with Dillard's Department Store. Marilyn will be remembered for her grace, beauty, devotion to family, always lending a helping hand to people and animals, her love of books, Franzia, and her talent for art and gardening.
After Eddie graduated from Amarillo High School in 1956, he earned his bachelor's degree in business and marketing from West Texas A&M. He was an active member of Kappa Alpha, and began working in the auto industry at a young age with J.C. Hamilton Company, matching car paint colors by eye. He went on to have a successful career in managerial and executive positions with Monroe Auto Parts as Vice President of Marketing for the Northeast Region. He then became an asset to Purolator Filters and Tire and Battery Corporation with his renowned leadership skills. Eddie will be remembered for his remarkable career, devotion to his wife, and his love of golf, sailing, and fine cigars.
Eddie and Marilyn spent their lives moving around the country, making friends and a home for their three children and a consistent menagerie of animals. Whether it was on the sailboat, the tennis court, in the pool, or playing board games in the den, Eddie and Marilyn kept an active family life.
When they retired to Florida in 1999, they made many new friends as pioneers in their growing community of Stonecrest, creating a beautiful life for themselves and everyone around them. They enjoyed traveling, sailing, dancing, and loved to entertain friends and family who came to visit with grilling, swimming, and the sights of Florida.
They are survived by their three children Becky Mann of Largo, Florida, Michael Mann of Summerfield, Florida, and Melissa Kay Bishop of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, their two grandchildren Arlo and Rowan Bishop of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Eddie's brother, Jim Mann of Georgetown, Texas, Marilyn's brothers Richard Boyd of Lubbock, Texas and Bill Boyd of Moultrie, Georgia.
Eddie and Marilyn will host one last get-together at a Celebration of Life held in their honor on Saturday, June 25th from 4:30-6:30 at the Stonecrest Community Center in Summerfield, Florida. Friends and family are invited to come share food, drink, and memories.
