Lucille Virginia Herrod, West Virginia native and longtime New Jersey resident, age 97, passed away June 16, 2022.

She was born in Salem, West Virginia, the fifth child and third daughter of Odbert J. Herrod, Sr. and Ruth Thompson Herrod.

She is survived by her daughter, Lu Ann Herrod of Somerville, New Jersey, and brother Elden B Herod of Parkersburg, WV. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Mansfield M; Odbert J. Jr. "Jack" and his wife, Betty; Oral Madison "Tee Hee" and his wife, Mary Betty; Delano R.; and Emerson W. She was also preceded in death by four sisters: Mildred L. Gallo and her husband, Albert; Vieva Pearl Junior and her husband, John J. Junior Jr.; Ruth E. Bolin; and June L. Runner; along with four nephews and a niece.

The Herrod family moved to Marshville, West Virginia, when Lucille was five years old. She graduated from Bristol High School in 1942 and later married Army Sgt. Arthur S. Peffley, who was serving in World War MI. After several years, they separated and she moved to New Jersey, where she obtained work for RCA (Radio Corporation of America) in its Harrison tube plant.

After a few years, Lucille transferred to the semi-conductor division in Somerville and continued to work there until her retirement on June 1, 1988.

Lucille was a longtime resident of Somerville, New Jersey, and was a member of the borough's Fourth Reformed Church for 45 years until it closed due to a lack of members. She subsequently joined Bradley Gardens Reformed Church in Bridgewater.

She did a lot of volunteer work for her church and filled various roles, such as deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. She was president of the Women's Guild and served at all fundraisers. In addition, Lucille volunteered at the Somerset Medical Center in Somerville for almost 15 years.

She belonged to Somerville Area Fish Inc. and served as president on two different occasions.
