Born (Johann) Christopher Zentmeyer, 5 Sep 1746 birth date recorded in Church birth records (Kirchenbücher) in Bischwiller, Bas-Rhin, France (I have photographs) conflicts with 1751 birth year on headstone. This region was known as Alsace, (Elsaß) and as recently as World War I was part of Germany. Family was German, from Roigheim, Württemberg. Common name Christopher, Christoph, or Stophel. Born Zentmeyer, also recorded in US Records as Sentmire, Santmyer, St. Mire; Zentmyer on headstone.

Christopher is the second surviving son of (Johann) Bernhard Zentmeyer and (Maria) Salome Roth Zentmeyer, and is my ancestor. Emigrated to Philadelphia 22 Nov 1752 aboard the Phoenix, Ruben Honor, Captain, via Rotterdam.

Married Barbara Lauman (Lowman) 22 April 1776, St. James Episcopal, Lancaster Co. Farmed 250 acres in what later became Arendtsville, Pennsylvania, and subsequently farmed in what is now Rouzerville, Pennsylvania. Operated an illegal drinking establishment on the Great Wagon Road, which ran near his farm.

Christopher's Rouzerville farm is currently owned by Robert Mong, and contains the old Zentmyer family cemetery as well as Christopher's brick federal-style home.
