Betty Jean Hunt, "Meme", age 81, passed away peacefully Monday June 13, 2022 after a valiant fight against cancer. She was lovingly cared for by Home Instead Senior care of Columbus and Hospice.

She is survived by Verda Hunt, her husband of 64 years, and two of her children: Gregory Hunt and Jackie Knox of Columbus, preceded in death by her daughter Cindi Gillespie. She is survived by 5 grandchildren who were her world: Sara Gillespie, Natalie Love, Justin Gillespie, Nathan Hunt and Nina Hunt and 4 great-grandchildren: Camdon Gillespie, AJ Gillespie, Taylor Knox and Elizabeth Hunt.

She was born to the late Vernon and Hazel Swiney on May 16th 1941 in Elkhorn City, Kentucky and was preceded in death by her 2 sisters: Lois McPeek and Tiny Justice.

She was a Passionate "Hillbilly" who grew up in the "hollers" of Elkhorn City, Kentucky. She relocated to Chicago for a few years and later chose Columbus, Ohio to live out her life with husband and 3 children. She was a child at heart with a determined spirit. Betty was known for her delightful laughter and generous heart. She enjoyed gospel music, encouraging the love of Jesus and gardening bright red flowers and vegetables with her husband . Our family shared many meals together with fresh lettuce, tomatoes and strawberries grown in their garden . She was known for her Chicken and Dumplings. "Meme" cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her laughter will be missed!
