Olive was the only child of Albert & Amanda (Scoles) Cochran. Amanda the daughter of the Rev. John & Elizabeth Jane (Powell) Scoles evidently died while Olive was very young. Olive lived with her paternal grandparents, John & Mary (Oram) Cochran, while in her teens and married Theodore Merrin on May 25, 1874 in Knox County, Ohio. Together they had five children: Victor Albert, Ray William, Chester Roe, Headley Aubern, and the only daughter, Hazel Olive.
