Bertie Opal Spencer, 88, of Hewett, Boone County, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at home after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Log Chapel, Hewett.

Surviving: sons, Dale and Don Spencer of Low Gap, Ivan Spencer of Bridgeton, N.J., Jackie and Orville Spencer of Hewett; daughters, Norene Baldwin, Sharon Craddock and Carol Lester of Lake, Daphene West of Bridgeton; brothers, Floyd Ball of Lake, Pete Ball of Mentor, Ohio; sisters, Tressa Ashworth of Cleveland, Ohio, Janice Bias and Madeline Lester of Hewett; 35 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Log Chapel with Dennis Dent officiating. Burial will be in Wallen Cemetery, Hewett. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Log Chapel. Handley Funeral Home, Danville, is in charge of arrangements.
