ABRAM HENSARLING PIONEER IN TEXAS PASSES TO REWARD

In the passing of Abram Hensarling, whose death occurred Saturday afternoon at the home of his son John L. Hensarling at Wellborn, Brazos county loses another of its highly esteemed pioneer citizens. Since 1871 Mr. Hensarling has been a resident of this county, and at all times alive to its interests and progress, and in his death, not only his family, neighbors and friends are bereft, but the entire county mourns the loss of an honest, upright and law abiding citizen. No greater heritage can be bequeathed to posterity than the record of a life spent in the service of humanity, with honesty and loyalty to the highest principles of manhood ever exemplified.

Buried on Sunday

On Sunday afternoon in the Steep Hollow cemetery, near the old Hensarling home where for so many years he loved and reared a family of noble sons and daughters, surrounded by a group of neighbors and friends who assembled to join the large family in its grief and sorrow. The body was laid to rest, beneath a mound of flowers. His life time friend, Rev. J. M. Bullock, conducted the funeral service and the Steep Hollow choir sang sweetly the old time hymns he loved and as the sun's last rays threw a sheen of mellolw light over the new made grave as the crowd dispersed.

Nearly Ninety

Abram Hensarling was born January 8, 1833 and had he lived until January would have been 90 years of age. Coming to Brazos county from Tyler county, Texas in 1871, he built his home near Steep Hollow church , and lived there , continously until only a few years ago, when , on account of the feebleness of age, he and his wife moved to town, so they might be near their children and be relieved of the care of the home farm. During the past two years, they have lived with their children, going on little visits from time to time as they desired. The home of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Hensarling at Wellborn was the last place visited for while there, only three weeks ago, Mr. Hensarling was taken suddenly ill, and continued to grow worse, until death relieved him of all suffering at the time above stated, and his long and useful life came to a close. Deceased is survived by his wife, four sons, John L. and George B. Hensarling of Wellborn, Tom A. Hensarling of Steep Hollow , and Phillip H. Hensarling of Bryan, and one daughter, Mrs. R. L. Buchanan of Silverton, Texas. The following served as pall bearers: J. F. Lavender, J. M. Ferguson, N. P. Dansby, H. O. Fergerson, J. L. Barron, J. H. Nash.
