John Krause
John Krause, known by nearly every citizen in Mountain View as “Uncle John,” died las Thursday night at the home of his son, Henry, southeast of town, aged 70 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Born in Russia, June 9, 1845; came to this country in 1874 and settled in McPherson county, Kansas, where he resided for 25 years. Came to Washita county, Oklahoma, in 1899, and lived there until the death of his wife in 1900, after which time he has made his home with his son Henry.
He was the father of 8 children, four of whom died in early childhood. Those living are John A., and Henry H., of Mountain View; Mary Thiessen, Inola, Okla., and Jacob H., Stuttgart, Ark. Three brothers survive him, A.J., west of town, and two living in Kansas.
Uncle John had many friends. He made and sold brooms here for a number of years, and in this way was known to nearly every household in town.
Funeral services were held at the Mennonite church west of town Sunday afternoon, attended by a large number of friends. The services were conducted by Fred Stuckey, Sr., Rev. Fleming and Rev. Resen. Rev. Vot made a short talk in the English language for those who could not understand German. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near the church.
