Dolores Theresa Hunter, 67, known to everyone as "Babe", passed away June 12, 2022. Dolores was born August 1, 1954 to Donald and Zena Hunter of Marshall Alaska. Dolores was retired and lived in Anchorage with her son Benjamin Hunter-Francis II and was on the Maserculiq board as Director for 27 years, 1979-1988, 1996-2005 and 2011 to present.
Dolores graduated from Mt. Edgecumbe High School in 1972, received her B.A. in Social Sciences from APU in 1976; Graduate Intern at UAF Cross Cultural Education Program, Masters in the Arts of Teaching in 1980 and attended APU's Hospitality Program in 1991.
She worked as a ICWA Specialist-Nome Eskimo Community 2012 to 2019; Panel Advisor-USA Canada Yukon River Salmon Treaty Panel 2003 to 2004; Tribal Administrator-Marshall Traditional Council 1996 to 2006; Social Worker-State of Alaska 1992 to 1995 and 1977 to 1978; Program Coordinator-CITC Headstart/Rural CAP 1988 to 1990; Bookkeeper/Land Planner-Maserculiq Inc/Marshall Enterprises 1982 to 1986; UAA X-CED Program Graduate Intern, Infant Learning Teacher 1978 to 1980; Commercial Salmon Permit Holder since 1987 and Child Care Provider for her great-nephew Isaac from 2010 to 2012.
She is survived by her son, Benjamin Hunter-Francis II, sisters Winifred Hunt (husband Michael Hunt); Adele Cooper; Rita Smith and Denise Hunter, brother Donald Hunter Jr. (wife Delores Hunter), sister-in-law Annie Hunter and brother-in-law Jacob Johnson Sr. and Henry Manumik, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces & nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin G. Francis, brothers Leslie Hunter Sr. and Lawrence Hunter, sisters Carol Manumik and Eunice Johnson, brother-in-law Timothy Smith, and her parents Donald and Zena (Beans) Hunter. Viewing will be held Wednesday June 22, 2022 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Angelus Chapel, 440 E Klatt Road, Anchorage Alaska. It was Dolores' wish to be cremated.
