Barbara Ella Mitchell was born June 23, 1931 in Spring Lake, New Jersey to the late Garrett McKinley Merchant and Essie Louise Nowlin.
On June 12, 2022 at home in Woodbridge, VA our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend was called home and departed this life in her sleep into the arms of Jesus.
She grew up in Greenwich, CT with her siblings, the late John Franklin Merchant and Mary Elizabeth Neal, where they all attended and graduated from Greenwich High School.
She married the late Marvin Seely Mitchell and moved to East Orange, NJ then Plainfield, NJ where she raised her four children.
Upon retiring from Bell Core, she relocated for a while to Richmond, VA, then to Oswego, IL and finally to Woodbridge, VA.
She leaves many to cherish her memories and carry on her legacy, four loving children, Dawn Mitchell Davis (Solomon), Robin Louise Pleasant, Karen Edith Williams (Herbert), Kip Garrett Mitchell, with a total of 28 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
