Along with her sisters, Thelma Jenkins (Marshall), deceased, and Georgie C. Labadie (Robert), she received her early education from Lucy E. Moten Demonstration Elementary School and FAMC High School. She completed her undergraduate degree at Florida A&M University.
Mrs. Smith was employed in Brevard Public Schools for over 25 years. During that time, she also earned an MEd degree from Florida Technological University, now UCF, located in Orlando, FL.
Charlie Smith did not slow down during her 30 plus years of retirement. She gratefully maintained active memberships in the NAACP, FAMU National Alumni Association, Brevard Chapter, Moore Cultural Complex Board, and Greater Works Christian Center. She enjoyed traveling to local nursing and rehabilitation centers with the Mims Seniors-at-Lunch Gospel Singers as well as encouraged and assisted North Brevard high school graduates through the LaWanda K. Smith Scholarship Foundation
Charlie Smith never let a day go by without letting someone know how great God is and always encouraged everyone to take time to read and to learn more about our Lord and Savior.
Mrs. Charlie Smith is preceded in rest by her late husband, Jackson Smith, and her youngest daughter, LaWanda K. Smith. She is survived by her daughter Ursula Perry, (Edgar, Jr.), Craig Smith (Tracey), her sister, Georgie W. Conoly Labadie (Robert), her grandchildren, Darien Perry, Bridgette Smith, and Cameron Smith, her great-grandsons Jaxon Perry and Eisen Perry, her nieces, her nephews, and a host of loving family members and close family friends.
