He is survived by his loving wife Marylin, his mother Margery Singletary, sister Elizabeth Franklin, niece Leah Franklin, cousins Sonya Franklin-Cuffie, Louis Christmas, Terry Franklin, and Willie Spikes.
Michael was raised in Springfield, NJ. He traveled and lived in Germany. Upon return to the US, he lived in various parts of New Jersey before settling down with his wife in Maplewood, NJ.
Michael entered the armed services and served for 3 years before gaining an honorable discharge. He then spent time working as a switch operator for NJ Transit. The majority of his work life was spent as an IT specialist.
Anyone who knew Michael could see that he was a bit of a prankster with a quick smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He was incredibly funny and enjoyed seeing comedy bits performed. His passions ran the gamut from his love of reading, watching tv, all types of sports, cycling, all sorts of music, live theater, and traveling and exploring. In his recent years he loved simply being a home body with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Nation Kidney Foundation – www.kidney.org
