Modesto, California - Donald Verne Stewart was born on September 7, 1935 in Modesto to Orvil and Lucille Stewart. He was the oldest of four children. He served in the United States Army and was trained in the AAA & Guided Missile School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He lived most of his adult life in Modesto. Don met his wife Kathryne (Kathy) in 1973 on a blind date and they were married on November 7, 1975. Don was a painting estimator for Don L. Davis for over 30 years until the business closed. He then worked for DC Vient until he retired in 2005. He was a member of the Sportsmen of Stanislaus (SOS) Club for over 50 years, playing handball with many lifelong friends.
Don is survived by his wife Kathryne V. Stewart, daughter Lori (Gil) Johnson, granddaughters Fallon (Larry) Rego and Skylar (Matthew) Piechalski, and sister Orvilla Washam. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Loretta Fernandes, brother-in-law Gary Ermoian, sister-in-law Boni Stewart, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard Stewart and Ronald Stewart, brother-in-law Billy Washam, sister-in-law Betty Stewart, brother-in-law Vince Fernandes, and grandson-in-law Matthew Freitas.
Private burial at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson, CA. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, June 18th from 12 PM - 3 PM at the Stewart residence.
