Thelma was educated in the Public School System of Merrih, VA. She pursued her education and graduated from St Paul Polytech Institute in 1945. Later moving to Washington, DC and worked in a nearby sandwich shop located in Rock Creek Park.
Thelma worked for a National Security Agency in Maryland for twelve years. Upon her retirement her family move to Etttrick, VA., in 1959 and graduated from VSU in 1963. She was formerly married to, William "Bill" Hayes, Sr.
Homegoing service will be held 11 A. M., Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison St., Petersburg, VA., 23803, pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Tillman, eulogist. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA.
