Devin Kohl Tester, 23 years of age of Hurley, VA, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 13, 2022 at his home. Born January 23, 1999 in Abingdon, VA, he was the son of Patrick Shawn Tester and Sherah Evonne Lester Tester of Hurley, VA.

Devin was a great person with an infectious smile and laugh. He was one of the most humble and selfless people that you would ever meet. Coach Justus told this story about Devin's senior year. Coach Justus was talking to Devin on the sideline during a game and Devin was closing in on his 1,000 yards rushing for the season. Devin might have needed 25 yards at the most and we were up big on the scoreboard. Coach Justus told Devin that the coaches were gonna put him back in for a few plays to get him his 1,000 yards. Devin already had a good night of rushing, but he looked at Coach Justus and said "ain't it time we put the young kids in so they can get some work because it's their time next?"

Devin was never about the individual stats or awards, but was always about supporting his teammates and his team. After his high school career, Devin volunteered as coach on the Hurley Varsity Football team.

Devin was currently employed by the BCPS as an SSO and was a volunteer coach on the Hurley Varsity Football team. He was a 2017 graduate of Hurley High School where he excelled in football and track. He was a former All BDD, All Region in football with 1,107 yards rushing on just 87 carries his senior year and 1,607 all purpose yards. He was also All State in track on the 4X100 relay team.

He was also an avid outdoorsman, loved to fish, ride ATVs, and motorcycles, and was an accomplished athlete in weight lifting and conditioning. His greatest accomplish and joy was being a dad to his baby girl Bella.

He was of the Christian faith, a loving son, grandson, father, and brother.

Devin was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Stanley Lester, uncles Greg Tester, Sr, and Charles "Chuckie" Tester.

Survivors include his parents Patrick Shawn Tester and Sherah Evonne Lester Tester of Hurley, VA; daughter Arabella Brielle "Bella" Tester of the home; maternal grandmother Priscilla Karen Lester of Wolford, VA; paternal grandparents Billy Lucas and Patsy Ann Tester of Hurley, VA; sister McKennah Nikohl Tester of Hurley, VA; brother Anthony Kade Hackney of Grundy, VA.

He is also survived by his special friend Zack Lester of Hurley, VA, several cousins and an extended family and friends.

Funeral service for Devin Kohl Tester will be held at the Jackson Chapel on Paw Paw Road, Hurley, VA, Friday, June 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ronnie Hurley, and Evangelist Mike Rife officiating. Burial will follow in the Tester Family Cemetery on Paw Paw Road, Hurley, VA.

Active pallbearers will be Zack Lester, Nick Gibson, Kade Hackney, Brady Justus, Tayten Sykes, Tomboy Justus, Greg Tester, Jr., Kelby Dotson and Tyson Tester.
