Mrs. J.G.Willard of Harristown aged eighty eight has dictated a brief history of her husband who died early Thursday morning, She says:
Mr. Willard was born in Overton Tenn, in 1827, the son of William and Martha Willard. In 1829 his father moved from Tennessee to Illinois settling in Morgan county, nine miles west of Jacksonville, on government lande. In 1849 He married Aliff C. Averitt from which union one son survives,J. M. Willard, 732 W. Macon street, Decatur.
Mr. Willard came to Macon county in 1855 and was one of the largest landholders in the county at the time of his death. He retired from active farming in 1890 and Mr. Willard moved to Decatur but did not like city life and returned to Harristown.
He was an active member of the Christian church for twenty five years. Since 1888 he was a strong adherent of the Prohibition party although earlier in his life he was a Democrat. He served for twelve years as road commissioner and was one of the incorporators of the Macon County Agricultural society.
He is survived by his wife, who was eighty eight years old, one son J. M. Willard and three granddaughters, Mrs.H.O.LOckhart of Springfield, and Aliff and Ruth Willard of Decatur.
The funeral services will be held in the Christian church at Harristown at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
