Robert W. Carmody Sr., 83, of Springfield died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at his residence. Robert was born Dec. 26, 1924, in Carrollton, the son of Phillip and Mary Catherine Carmody; they preceded him in death. He married Rosemary Dolan on Aug. 6, 1955, in Pecatonica.
Robert was a graduate of Hardin High School's class of 1942 and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1942 to 1945. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1950 and was a member of the SIU Alumni Association. He retired from Country Mutual Insurance Co. after serving 38 years as a regional claims manager.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Carmody; three sons; six daughters; 18 grandchildren; five sisters; two brothers.
Cremation accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Funeral Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial in Camp Butler National Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and U.S. Navy.
