Jim was born June 21, 1931 at Vinton, the son of Albert and Mable (Jerolaman) Kirk. He attended school in Vinton, graduating in 1949, and then attended Iowa State University earning a degree in agriculture.
Following college, Jim proudly served in the U. S. Army for two years during the Korean conflict. As a result of completing the ROTC course while in college, Jim was directly commissioned to First Lieutenant.
Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed the company of three wives: Glenna Hanneman, Nicki Detels and Cheryl Stufflebeam, all of whom preceded him in death.
While fulfilling his passion for farming, Jim also served on the Benton County fair board, acquired his pilot's license and expressed his creativity in various projects. Of those projects, Jim's most cherished memory was when he traveled all over the world delivering grain for food aid projects through the United Nations.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Deborah Kirk of CO; two grandchildren: AJ and Carter Nadolsky; eight step-grandchildren; and sixteen step-great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, Dan; and brother, David.
