Sportsman, soldier and politician. Brigadier General Sir William Bromley-Davenport, K.C.B., C.M.G., C.B.E., D.S.O., D.L., M.P. Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire. He was educated at Eton and was a distinguished winning his amateur cap as a center-forward on the Soccer team. He won the Distinguished Service Order wile in command of the Staffordshire Yeomanry in the Second Boer War 1899-1902. He went to Egypt and France in World War I rising to the rank of Brigadier General. Sir William served as Deputy Lieutenant, and a Member of Parliament on two different occasions. At the time of his death, he had served as Lord Lieutenant for Cheshire for 29 years.
