He was born on January 5, 1927 in Yadkin County to the late George Dewey and Lula Luffman Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Robinson and Dorothy Pitts; brothers, Grady Simmons and Leo Simmons.
Johnny is survived by his children, Lynn (Dennis) Burnette, Kay Smith, Mark (Dawn) Simmons, and Michelle (Jonathan) Vogler; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Inez (Tommy) Fuquay and Naomi Thompson.
The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1 PM.
Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 Honor Guard and the US Navy.
