Gerald James Askler, 91, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at his residence in Battle Creek, MI. He was born November 28, 1930 in Flint, MI, the son of Joseph F. Askler and Florence M. (Vaverek) Askler. Gerald graduated from St. Matthew High School in 1949. He married Rita M. Kaminski on August 29, 1953 in Ludington, MI.

Gerald graduated from Ferris State Institute and began his working career as a beloved Pharmacist in the Urbandale area. He first worked for Mr. Briggs who owned three drugstores. He then worked for both Speakers Drug Store before starting relief work at Lamour Drugs Store, which led to Gerald eventually owning the business. In 1960 he built a new store across the street. In 1964 he purchased the Augusta Drugstore, which he later sold. In 1988 Gerald opened a new store in the Augusta/Galesburg area. He was a member of: The St. Jerome Men's Club; where he was a charter member and also the first president of the parish council, the local pharmacy association, the Pharmacy Service Insurance Company, and the Urbandale Level Park Business Association. He was also a member of St. Philip Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic Athletic Association. Gerald also donated his time by driving bus for the St. Philip fighting Tigers and by coaching in the Mickey Mantle League for several years. He enjoyed fishing, football, traveling, coin collecting, classic cars, and real estate; which turned into a major business. Gerald was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife: Rita M. Askler; 2 sons: Stephen Askler and Andrew (Kathleen) Askler; 2 daughters: Julie (Arthur) Quinn and Karen (Brett) Sellers; one sister: Katherine (Willard) Eikey; nine grandchildren: Melissa, Robert, Brian, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Kaitlyn, McKenzie, Alyssa, and Randall; six great grandchildren: Ryan, Kaelyn, Temperence, Jaxson, Quillian, and Willabelle; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father: Joseph Askler; his mother: Florence Askler; one daughter: Marsha Askler; and one brother: Frederick (Lauraine) Askler.
Funeral services have taken place at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with a burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Special Olympics or to a Charity of One's Choice.
