YANCEY, PAULA RENEE – 1975-2001 – 25, of Oneida passed away on
Wednesday, March 28, at Scott County Hospital in Oneida. She was
the daughter of JOHNNY and IRENE SEXTON YANCEY and was a member of the Christian faith. PAULA was a four year member of the
Oneida Lady Indians Basketball team, receiving numerous awards and an
athletic scholarship to Maryville College. She was presently a
sophomore at Roane State Community College. She was preceded in death
by her grandfathers, PAUL VERNON YANCEY and ARCHIE
SEXTON; and one aunt, EDITH SEXTON. Survivors include her parents,
JOHNNY and IRENE YANCEY; and two brothers, JOHNNY PAUL
and DEREK YANCEY, all of Oneida; grandmothers, PRINTY YANCEY of Stearns, Ky., and GENEVA SEXTON of Oneida; a special niece,
MADISON YANCEY; and special nephew, DALTON YANCEY, both of Oneida; two special aunts, INAS LANE of Oneida and MARTHA
ANN WITZELL of Georgia; three special uncles, CHARLES (WOMPIE) SEXTON
and PAUL SEXTON of Oneida, and JAMES SEXTON of
Harriman; a "Second Mom", ANNA RUTH (POOCH) CARSON; special friends,
STEPHANIE SWANN, TASHA DAVIS, SHONDA CASEY,
SUE STANLEY, MISTY DOUGLAS, and BRENDA SMITH; and a number of other
relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on
Saturday, March 31, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Jones and Son Funeral
Home with sisters, DIANE WRIGHT and GENEVA SUMMERS officiating.
Special music was provided by sisters DIANE WRIGHT and GENEVA SUMMERS
and the Phillips Family Singers. Burial was in the Sexton
Cemetery in the Paint Rock community. Serving as pallbearers were
JOHNNY PAUL YANCEY, DERRICK YANCEY, JOE CORNELIUS,
CHARLES SEXTON, LESTER COLLINS, and PAUL SEXTON, Jr. Serving as
honorary pallbearers were PAUL SEXTON, LELAND BABB,
TOMMY CARSON, PAUL VERNON YANCEY, Jr., and the Oneida Home Health
Nurses. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Oneida was in charge
of the arrangements.
