POWNAL - Amy Call O'Brien, 53, of Pownal, passed away on Sept. 24, 2017, at Mercy Hospital.

Amy was born on Sept. 15, 1964, to George and Joan Call of Milton, Mass. She spent her youth generally raising havoc and somehow learning the lyrics to every 80s song ever written.

She graduated from Fontbonne Academy in 1982 and Regis College in 1986, and began working at The Theater at Monmouth, where she met and fell in love with Jeffrey O'Brien. They married in 1987 and had three children.

Amy homeschooled her children for 14 years and then worked as a teacher for many years at Meadowbrook Montessori School, Maine Coast Waldorf School, and Morningsong Farm Children's Garden, a small, farm-based preschool she ran at her home.

Amy was a loving mother and wife, and a talented and caring teacher. She protected those she loved with a fierce loyalty. She enjoyed spending time with her family, taking care of her many animals, riding her Icelandic horses, walking the roads of Pownal, decorating her house with bright colors, and going out to eat sushi.

She was an amazing hostess. Amy would predict who would win a football game, solely based on who had the best uniform, with amazing accuracy. She possessed an acerbic sense of humor and a contagious laugh. She loved attending live theater performances. Amy had very clear opinions on everything. One always knew her thoughts on things.

She had a natural way with young children. In a grocery store or a restaurant, children would naturally wave to her or say "hello." Young children always knew they were in the presence of someone who understood them and loved them. Many, many children have fond memories of her summer "farm camp."

She will be sorely missed by her husband, Jeffrey; her children, Samuel, Lily and Tyler; her entire extended family; and her many, many friends.
