WAMPSVILLE - Betty M. Keller, 91, of North Court Street, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, in Oneida Healthcare Center, where she had been a patient for the past three days.
Born in Oneida on Nov. 26, 1920, she was a daughter of Herman and Bertha Skellham Brockway. A lifelong resident of the area, Betty graduated from Stockbridge Valley School, Class of 1939. She married Lewis Smith in Old Forge on June 28, 1947. Mr. Smith died on March 29, 1984. She later married Hugo B. "Bud" Keller in Oneida on Feb. 8, 1986. Mrs. Keller served during World War II as part of the Women's Army Corps in Belgium as part of the European Theatre.
Betty retired from Madison County as the Deputy County Clerk. She was a faithful friend of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of AARP, former member of the Young at Heart Club, a member of Sherrill American Legion, Post 230, the Order of the Eastern Star, Silver Star Chapter No. 21 and a charter member of the Oneida Area Ballroom Dance Club, the Women's Memorial of the Women in Military Service for America and the Oneida Business and Professional Women's Association.
Surviving besides her husband, Bud, are three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur and Bonnie Keller of Villages, Fla., Paul Keller of Westchester, Pa. and Carl and Pat Keller of Cleveland; seven grandchildren, Arthur, Brett, Dan, Seth, Alex, Nicole, and Hans; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Wayne and Kathy Knapp of Schenectady, Douglas and Linda Wright of Oneida, Bruce and Ann Wright of Oneida, Alan Wright of Oneida, Debbie Kirk, John Bellinger and Cheryl and Tim Nolan. She was predeceased by three sisters, Rosemary Knapp, Etola Wright and Hermajean Gebo and one brother, Charles Z. Brockway.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Oneida with the Rev. Stuart Wattles, officiating. Interment will be made in Stockbridge Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Contributions, in Betty's memory, can be made to The First Presbyterian Church, Broad and Stone Streets, Oneida, N.Y. 13421, Wampsville Fire Department Rescue, P.O. Box 163, Wampsville, N.Y. 13163 or Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 382, Canastota, N.Y. 13032. Envelopes may be obtained at the church.
