Fred Griffin passed away on December 11, 2021 at Lampasas Nursing and Rehab Center, at the age of 97 years old.
Graveside services will be held at Nix Cemetery on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 2 pm.
Fred was born November 24, 1924 in Robstown, Texas to David B. and Lavinia Lovelace Griffin. Fred spent his early years in Calallen, Texas on the family farm. The family moved to Lampasas when Fred was still a boy and he attended Lampasas schools and graduated from Lampasas High in 1942. Fred and his twin brother Ed joined the Army Air Corp on May 21, 1943 and were deployed to the China-Burma-India Theatre of Operations, where they served with the 346th Airdrome Squadron, 3rd Combat Cargo Squadron, 1st Combat Cargo Group, 10th Army Air Force and were awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon with 4 bronze stars symbolizing the units participation in four campaigns; China, Central Burma, India Burma, and the China Offensive.
Fred returned home in January of 1946 and began courting Erma Lee Williamson, they were married in 1947. They made their home in Lampasas County and raised three children, Robert Griffin, Janice Griffin, and Sandra Griffin. Later in life, Fred married Annetta Ketchens, who preceded him in death. Their union produced a daughter, Denise Ketchens. Fred was a lifelong farmer and rancher and worked at Ft. Hood for civil service until his retirement. Fred was a Baptist and a member of the Adamsville Baptist Church. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Willard Griffin, and his son, Robert "Bob" Griffin.
Survivors include his twin brother, Ed Griffin of Lampasas; his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jeff Poole; daughter, Janice Vincent and husband, Jim, all of Lampasas; daughter, Denise Ketchens of Cedar Park; granddaughter, Amy Brown and husband, Shane of Lampasas; grandson, Michael Mahana and wife, Angela of Frisco, TX, and Parker Capriotti of Cedar Park; great-grandson's, Christian Mahana of Frisco, Michael January and fiance, Becca Faught, and Benjamin Brown, all of Lampasas as well as great-great-grandson, Kooper Hankins of Lampasas.
