Word of the passing of Mrs. W.P. Heaton at a Watertown hospital Sunday evening was soon spread here Monday morning, and though her condition was known to be serious it was regretted by all that this esteemed lady could not recover.

Edith Mary Cosgrove was born June 9, 1872 at Plattsville, Lafayette County, Wisconsin and passed away May 30, 1937. Being at the time of her death 64 years, 11 months and 22 days.

At the age of twelve she moved to Washata, Iowa, where she resided until her marriage to Ward P. Heaton on December 25, 1893, when they moved to Pierson, Iowa.

They lived at Person until they moved to Crookston, MN, and after five years there the family moved to Sterling, ND, where they lived 9 years. In 1915 they moved to Gary where they have since made their home on the farm located northwest of Gary.

To this union 13 children were born. Three died in invancy and Lee preceded her in death April 15, 1935.

Surviving Mrs. Heaton are her husband and the following children: Guy of Baudette, MN; Harold of Ft. Worth, Texas; Bertha (Mrs. Wells Cole); Irving, Pearl (Mrs. Maurice Peden) Clarice (Mrs. Herman Schutjer); Perty, Lewis and Louise, all of Gary and 19 grandchildren.

Mrs. Heaton had been to Rochester, MN two years ago but all medical skill had been powerless to give her any permanent relief.

She was taken to the hospital at Watertown May 17th for treatment again but she lost strength steadily. Mrs. Heaton was a quiet, gentle woman of fine Christian character.

Her chief interests in life were her home and family. This fact was witnessed many a time in the gathering of her children and their families at her home on various occasions.

Many times during her last days she expressed the hope that she might go to her reward and she passed quietly in a deep sleep Sunday evening at 10:15 while at the Luther hospital in Watertown.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the M.E. Church in Gary with Rev. E.O. Machamer as the clergyman and the church was filled to overflowing. A double quartet consisting of Mrs. R.H. Benner, Mrs. E.O. Machamer, Mrs. George Meinberg, Miss Evadna Cochrane, Ottis O. Rule, John Eikamp, Henry Sweeter and Maynard Cochrane sang two songs, "Safe In The Arms of Jesus," and "In The Sweet Bye and Bye." A duet was sung by Mrs. R.H. Benner and Mrs. Machamer, "In The Upper Garden."

The pallbearers were Mrs. Heaton's sons and sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers were Lou H. Huffman, J.D. Woodbury, C.W. Hubbs, Wm Ruby, Henry Schutjer and S.T. Bereman.
