Charles Seel
MALTA Charles E. "Gene" Seel, 70, longtime banker, died Sunday at his home in Malta of cancer.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Adams Memorial Chapel with burial in the Malta Cemetery.

Born April 29, 1924, at Fort Buford, N.D., he attended schools in Fort Buford and Malta, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1942. During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

From 1945 to 1950 he worked at Westland Oil Co. in Malta. He married Faye Grimsley in 1946. Seel was employed at the Malta Standard Garage for eight years.

In 1963 he worked as a bank teller at the First State Bank. He later became an assistant cashier and retired in 1989 as a vice president.

Seel was president of the Phillips County Saddle Club, original organizer and member of the Phillips County Sheriff's Posse, a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge, secretary-manager of the Malta Area Chamber of Commerce, and official of the Montana Bankers Association.

Survivors include his wife of Bellevue, Wash.; a son Charles "Shorty" Seel of Bellevue, Wash.; a daughter, Terry Mosier of Deer Lodge; a brother, Donals Wulff of Seattle; two sisters, Carla Hess Landry of Grand Forks, N.D., and Mona Wulff of Minneapolis, Minn., and two grandchildren.
