Mrs. Dartez died February 24, 2004 after a long illness at the home of her daughter in Ruston, LA. Her husband Robert N. Dartez died January 27, 1973.
A native of Leighton, LA, Mrs. Dartez is the last surviving Miller sister of five who lived at the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Lake Charles after their parents died in 1916. The sisters moved to Monroe when the Home relocated in 1925.
Mrs. Dartez attended Ouachita Parish High School and Dodd College in Shreveport on a music scholarship before marrying Robert N. Dartez and returning to Monroe. She devoted her life to her family, her church and her work.
She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Monroe, the Martha Sunday School Class, the choir, and for many years was pianist and teacher in the Primary Department. A long-time office manager at Peacock's Jewelers, she also worked at several other businesses downtown. She had many happy memories of friends and business associates.
She is survived by her daughter, Kitty D. DeFreese and husband Travis of Ruston, LA; her step-son, Harold Dartez and wife Ruth of West Monroe; five grandchildren: Stephanie D. Walker and husband James of Brewton, AL; Laura D. McKinney and husband Richie of Ruston, LA.; Craig DeFreese and wife Alice of Decatur, AL; Pattie D. Wilson and husband Doug of Columbus, GA; and Zoe D. Kean and husband Charles of Springfield, IL; and 10 great grandchildren.
