KIA Civil War

Connecticut Courant
Hartford, CT
Saturday July 19, 1862, page 2
Mr. J. C. Bond of Somers, the well know stage drive for many years on the route between Somers and Hartford, received a telegraph on Thursday from Brooklyn, N. Y. stating that his son Charles F. Bond, age 21, a member of Co., B, 8th Conn. Regiment, had died that morning, and the body would be sent home. It is two or three weeks since Mr. Bond received a letter from his son, dated Newbern, stating that he was well. It is presumed that he was taken since and brought north and died in hospital. This is surmise, however, as the parents knew nothing of his sickness until they received the sad message of his death, and have not as yet received any particulars. Another son of Mr. Bond, Henry B., a member of the same company aged 18 years, died last January at Annapolis. The parents of these young men have indeed made a sacrifice for their county - and what a sacrifice!! May they have their reward in soon seeing the triumph of our cause, and the country restored to peace and prosperity.
