Mary Ellen Andrews, age 95, of Council Bluffs, passed away June 9, 2022, at Risen Son Christian Village.
Mary Ellen was born May 14, 1927, in Council Bluffs to the late Emil and Elsie (Schonberg) Moen. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1945.
Mary Ellen married Lester Andrews on June 18,1949, in Council Bluffs. They were blessed with 2 children, Dean and Beth.
Mary Ellen was an active member of Saint John Lutheran Church, P.E.O. Chapter LP and Service League. She was on the W.C.A. Board and the Board of Directors at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. She enjoyed bowling and volunteering at church and Jennie Edmundson.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Les Andrews in 2009 and her grandson, Travis Matters.
Mary Ellen is survived by her son, Dean (Marcie) Andrews of Charles City, Iowa; daughter, Beth (Gary) Matters of Council Bluffs; 4 granddaughters, Lesley (Kevin) Dawravoo of Hinsdale, Illinois and their children Liam, Connor and Beckett; Kari (Chad) Thomas of Council Bluffs and their children Julia, Jason and Jocelyn; Kelly (Dano) Rivas of Denver, Colorado and their children Layla and Lucy; Traci (Blake) Wilken of Underwood, Iowa and their children Riley and Taylor; niece Dede (Brian) McGiffin of Newport Beach, Calif.
Funeral service, Monday, 11:00 a.m. at Saint John Lutheran Church with a lunch immediately following in the parish center. Interment will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery. Visitation with the family, one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials are suggested to Saint John Lutheran Church or Risen Son Christian Village.
